 Mission Statement

The Mission of Brothers and Sisters of Love is to be a visible sign of Jesus’ Love, Peace, and Presence to the poor in Gang Infested Neighborhoods in Chicago and to be a bridge between gangs & the poor with the Church.

This is Done By:

1)  Loving unconditionally (to the best of ability) the people we meet.

2)  Trusting in God that the spirit of God will lead and guide us in how we deal with people.

3)  Forgiving Everyone Everything.  We have never broken a relationship.

4)  Never being afraid.  Since we go to dangerous neighborhoods violence happens.  Fear is a natural component.  In times of problems and danger, Brothers and Sisters of Love will remember the first two points of Loving and Trusting in God.  For the Bible tells us that Love casts out Fear (1Jn. 4:16).

Concrete Steps:

1) Walking a neighborhood while wearing a homemade blue-jean habit.  Reaching out to people we meet on the streets; showing compassion; listening to people; praying with them when asked; being a visible example of peace.

2)  Performing Ministerial Duties. Going to homes of people who are suffering; blessing homes; praying with people; visiting the sick and injured in hospitals; visiting (and taking people to) jails and prisons; going to court; helping at funerals and wakes.

3)  Helping with needs: transportation, food, clothing, housing, medicine, utilities, funeral, sending money to jail/prison, understanding legal issues a family may face.

4)  Giving of time: being supportive through court, injuries, funerals; going to government agencies to navigate red tape; helping people to overcome paralysis of what poverty causes people to inhibit themselves; helping to interpret paperwork related to legal and other issues that prevent things from happening for people.
